For the second year in a row, Noah Lyles was a runaway choice for the top spot, capturing 22 of the 31 votes for No. 1 by our international panel. Runner-up Sam Kendricks, the ’17 winner, picked up 5 No. 1s, with the rest going to Donavan Brazier (2) and Rai Benjamin & Ryan Crouser (1 each).
TRACK & FIELD NEWS has been choosing a U.S. Women’s Athlete Of The Year since ’76. There was no doubt in the international panel’s mind about who was No. 1 for ’19, Dalilah Muhammad picking up all 32 of the 1st-place votes… The double WR setter became the first unanimous choice since Brianna McNeal (then Rollins) turned the trick in ’13. She’s also the first 400 hurdler to win top honors since Sandra Farmer-Patrick in ’89…
